Manic Mondays: Etsy Spotlight

Well, another Monday is upon us, and for me it was a really manic monday. You see, we have this little problem at work. We ordered this carpet for a job, and when it came in we realized that we ordered the wrong size. So back we go to order another piece to fill in the mistake, annnddd its a different dye lot (also our fault.) We then decide to just order a whole another piece and it comes in and its the wrong carpet! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. We are getting it figured out but it didn't exactly make for a easy day, and I just wish I could disappear into this photograph. Isn't it serene? This shop on Etsy has some BEAUTIFUL photographs that are somehow very magical and reasonably priced! I want this top one for my living room.

Thanks Kristen!

Today is a great day. Its 78 degrees, all the doors and windows are open and the sun is shining. These are the days when I am so grateful I live in the South. 78 degrees in February. yes. But the weather isn't the only reason today is awesome!
1. The drapes are done. Done done done!

2.  I sent my pics to Kristen and she loved them and featured them on her blog. How awesome is that! Apart from being super creative and awesome, she is so sweet and got back to me within a day! So head over HERE to see the post she did.

If you have been reading my blog for any time at all, you know that I hate my carpet. Hate it. But so are the woes of renting. When I was planning out my chevron pattern, I planned the top stripe to be a lot wider than the bottom stripe to add weight to the top of the curtains and draw your eye up, away from the carpet.

So funny story with the drapes. I went over to my friends house on Saturday, we were planning to do our drapes together in a few hours. Easy peasy right? Ohh nooo. 5 hours later, I was done. the drapes were 3 different widths, so that made it challenging (read: awful). The top of the drapes were 56", the middle were about 57 1/2", and the bottom was 57". I mean WTF??? Laying out the drapes and getting all the lines straight took a while, (disclaimer here. I'm an architecture grad and thus SUPER anal. i want everything to line up EXACTLY right.) Andrea finally looked at me, and said, "Ok, its time to move on. We are eyeballing it." Ahh, it was tough to let it go but they ended up looking great!
What do you think? You like??? And a big thanks again to Kristen for featuring my project!!

Don't you want to live in a Treehouse?

When I was a kid, this was my dream. I wanted to live in the woods as an Indian princess and sleep in a treehouse. I hated my blue eyes and wanted brown ones. I wanted long black hair. And since those dreams never came true, at least my child can have a treehouse to sleep in. Joanna linked Juli of the Slow Life  who made those dreams for her child to come true. How incredible is this! My favorite part is that her 2 year old picked the paint colors, well, she did a great job! I'm saving these pictures and since my husband is handy with power tools and can make almost anything, I would say this is in our future.

Show off your favorite pictures... DIY from Eddie

I was over at Eddie's blog and I spied this awesomely creative way to frame your pictures that he did for Women's Day magazine. I love the idea below- framing out your wedding photo's in a encyclopedia definition of love! how sweet!

Below, he used magic market to add definition and pop to a standard white mat. LOVE this.
And framing your loved one's pic out in ribbon can only make it better right??

Make sure you head over to Eddie's to see more fun ideas, I'm off to scrounge up some old frames to try the top idea with some of our yet unframed wedding photos. I'll keep you posted!

Anthropologie Love

Look at my fun little pretty from Anthro! I'm obsessed. I told Luke that he could put this deer head anywhere in the house he wanted, as opposed to his deer head which is shoved in the guest closet!

Happy Valentines Day everyone!! Enjoy your day with the ones you love.

Stylish Blog Award

I've received the Stylish Blog Award from the super awesome Katy of Mom and Her Drill, and if you don't already stalk her, you should! She's super awesome and I'm totally intimidated by all the stuff she does, I'm not brave enough to attempt half of it!
So what this Award means is that I have to share some stuff about me, and pass the award on to some peeps I think are pretty awesome. So here goes,

1. I talk about the characters of "Friends" like they are real people. I have watched the series at least 6 times all the way through.

2. Sometimes I wonder how I do this all day. I mean, I work at a design firm all day and then I come home and dream up ideas for my house. and I love every minute of it. Do I have a problem?

3.  I have an unhealthy obsession with hot tea. I drink at least 2 cups a day and when my mom and I get together, its more like 3 or 4.

4. I am a jacket whore. I have just about every Patagonia, Mountain Hardware, and North Face jacket they make. I'm not even lying. Its an expensive hobby but I can't stop.

5. I miss my best friend a lot. Like a lot. And she only lives like 1.5 hours away.

6. I would be completely happy to sit on the beach all day every day.

7. I developed a love for fashion when I was very young. I mean, like totally unreachable for real people fashion. Pucci, Yves Saint Laurant, Bottega Veneta, Dior, Prada, Viktor and Rolf, Alexander McQueen. I just love the creative aspect of design and religiously watch all the shows every season.

And I'm passing this on to some other fabulously stylish bloggers... you should totally check them out!

(Finally) A sneak peak into my home

Well dear readers, I am finally ready to give you a peek into my home. We've been here almost 6 months and not much is done. Ahhh life. I am also really struggling with the renting aspect of living right now, I don't want to put any money into somewhere I may only be for a year or two. What I mean by that is, although I want it to be comfortable and fun and reflect our personalities, I don't want to invest in furniture pieces that may or may not fit in when we buy. Its a constant struggle when I see these amazing lucite chairs, or parson table, or incredible window treatments that I really want. Tell me fellow renters, how do you do it? How do you make your home reflect you while still address the "temporary" aspect of renting?
 before.

When we first moved in. You can see I don't have that much to work with, about 1100 sq. feet total. But we absolutely LOVE the location, right on the river and downtown. Its amazing to wake up to the sound of the water every morning, and we kayak all the time when the weather is nice.
Below is my favorite change. Its amazing what a little paint can do! Our dining room was dark and dull, so I added a focal wall with $15 dollars of benj moore paint. Big difference. (One tip is, always think about light reflectivity. The back wall just died in the dining area, so I used an eggshell paint to add something for the light to bounce off of.)

(getting new lamps by the way)
In real life, the paint is a lot more turquoise. So you remember my console that i redid here? Well, it got redone again! This time in white lacquer. It took me 6 coats total to get it where I wanted it! I was up at 8:30 in the morning before work frantically rolling on my last coat! (See, in my ideal home, this is where my parson console table would go, not this piece which I am totally over. But it works)

Living Room, not much to report. I love our yellow cocktail tables and I going shopping with a friend on Monday to get some drapes to DIY Kristen's fab drapes for in here.Excuse the boring wall color and yucky carpet. Nothing I can do there! Below- drapes to come soon. Dont' you love them!
Other side of room. Love our chaise. When luke makes a fire, I snuggle up here and read.
Another example of  making do with what we have. I found the most amazing piece of artwork for over my sofa but at the $500 price tag, it was not coming home with me. So I hung a couple of prints we already owned and framed a piece of fabric and done. Until I save up for my dream piece, this works for me!
I hope you enjoyed my home, and I really would love some encouragement and ideas from fellow renters (or home owners, I'm not cutting you out, just jealous!) about how to make your temporary home reflect you without going overboard!

xoxo,

Eileen
