are you reading blogs less?

Do you feel like people are reading blogs less? With instagram and pinterest a lot of people are saying that blogs are becoming less relevant. I can't decide if I agree. On the one hand instagram is such a great way for people to see snapshots of your life and its so much easier to upload one photo than create an entire blog post. Pinterest gives me instant satisfaction when I want inspiration, something you used to have to read blogs for.
But on the other hand, Pinterest lacks the human perspective element that blogs are so great for. Its shows the beautiful side of life but lacks the messy that makes us relateable.
Instagram snapshots are just that, snapshots.
Blogging will change and adapt but I think its here to stay. What do you think?

  1. I agree that people are becoming more and more visual creatures. I also feel that there still is a need for blogger out there :)

  2. I'm reading a lot less, not because of Pinterest or Instagram but because if you read any blog long enough it becomes redundant. I'm also posting on my own less.

  4. I def think people attention spans are a lot shorter, wanting instant gratification. I have adapted in trying to keep my blog posts more visual and less wordy. I think there will always be those people who want more and will continue to follow along.

  5. I think this is why it's so important for bloggers to let their personalities shine through in posts - I come back to my favourite blogs because I want to know what the blogger is up to. Pretty pictures are great, but I like the personal side of blogs so I hope that bloggers keep sharing!

  7. I do not agree AT ALL - I read them just as much but spend a bit of time on IG when I don't have as much time :)

  8. I love following fellow bloggers via other social media, but I'm still hugely into writing posts and reading others.

It's just picking and choosing which ones I love the most. Sunday afternoons, after football, is when I catch up and do the most reading and writing.

  9. I read blogs every day! I don't have a smart phone, so I don't use instagram very much except for on my iPad. I love reading the articles and spending time reading blogs. It's like reading a bunch of magazines I love daily!

  10. i do read blogs a LOT less. i really only follows ones now in which i feel a connection with the authors- there are so few of the BIG HUGE bloggers i regularily follow now via their blog, unless they have something intersesting on instagram or something! i only follow the blogs that have something really original to say (like yours!!!)

  11. I think I'm reading fewer blogs, but not necessarily spending less time reading if that makes sense. It's all about building those special blogging friendships. It is a true reward. I've definitely noticed people are commenting less though.

  12. Hi, I am new here and literally JUST started reading blogs during the process of planning a wedding, becoming friends with girls on a wedding forum, and buying a house. So searching for ideas and reading handy tips was my main focus. I have been following the fall home tours and I like to read a little about the person the day before they post, so that is how I came about your blog :-)

I know that the whole blogging thing started a while ago, I was even tempted to start my own, but I don't know how anyone has the time, especially with a child or multiple children! I work an awful shift 10 - 7, so I sleep in late, and take care of my dog and husband when I get home lol. I have always seen a blog, read a few entries and not really gone back. I usually just read the one that came up in a search or somebody posted for one reason or another. But I do think the blogger world seems friendly and everyone seems to support each other and that is probably what keeps you all going. I hope to continue to read some blogs, but there SO many, I don't know how to choose. I thought your post was interesting because everyone has a different opinion and I think it is a very real trend that people are more impatient than ever, want instant gratification via pictures, and don't have time to read as much. More so as a population though. I think that the blog readers are still out there, as well as the blog writer/reader who encourages others to keep going. Just thought I would chime in, can't wait for your home tour tomorrow!

  14. Hrm, interesting topic. I'd never thought of it that way. Pinterest feeds off of blogs so I feel like the two are still interconnected. I personally haven't been reading blogs any less because of Pinterest or instagram.
